Taking a Course For Category A1

It is essential to complete the category A1 course prior to when you can get your license. It's not the only requirement. You must also pass a practical test.

Practical lessons

The course for A1 prepares students for the motorcycle test. This course is for students who want to ride a moped or small motorbike with a power range of up to 125cc. The practical lessons cover both theory and practice in basic riding techniques. The course is at a minimum of four hours. Students wishing to pass the test should have at least 9 hours of training with an instructor.

The practical lessons in the category A1 driving course are divided into various sections. The first is a theory lesson about the basic rules for driving. The next part is a road-based lesson in which students practice the manoeuvres which will be tested during the Mod 1 test. The final lesson is the test itself and lasts for about 15 minutes. The student is required to perform a variety of manoeuvres, whether on Federal or country roads. The student will also be required to complete a series of special rides like driving at dawn, during rain, or at night.

Students must also pass a written exam in addition to the practical and theoretical lessons. This exam is comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions.
